Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you might want to know about the Indian Festival Calendar app. Still curious? Write to us — we reply.
General
What is the Indian Festival Calendar app?+
It's a free Android app that gathers the festivals of every major Indian faith and region — Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Parsi and tribal traditions — into one beautiful calendar, together with daily Panchang details, live countdowns and smart reminders.
Is the app free? Are there ads or in-app purchases?+
Yes — the app is 100% free to download and use. To keep it free, the app shows a small number of advertisements supplied by Google AdMob, always clearly separated from app features. There are no in-app purchases. If anything about this ever changes, it will be clearly stated on this website and in the Play Store listing.
Do I need to create an account?+
No sign-up of any kind is required. Just install the app and start exploring. An optional sign-in may be introduced in the future purely for backup of favourites — it will always stay optional.
Which Android versions does the app support?+
The app is built to run on modern versions of Android. The exact minimum version is shown on the Google Play listing ("Requires Android"). If your device is newer than the minimum, you're good to go.
Features
Which festivals are covered?+
The app covers festivals from all major Indian traditions — for example Diwali, Holi, Navratri, Pongal, Onam, Baisakhi, Eid, Christmas, Buddha Purnima, Mahavir Jayanti, Nowruz and many regional and tribal celebrations. Browse them in Explore by religion, region or category.
What information does each festival page show?+
Every festival opens into a rich guide: its significance, main rituals, preparation steps, festive foods, decorations, traditional attire, gift and greeting ideas, Do's & Don'ts and more.
Can I set reminders and notifications?+
Yes. The app offers a daily "Panchang digest" notification each morning and alerts as each festival arrives. You can switch these on or off any time in the app's Settings. Notifications are scheduled in Indian Standard Time (Asia/Kolkata).
What is the Meditation hub?+
Between the festivals, the Meditation tab opens a carefully chosen meditation resource directly inside the app, so you can pause and re-centre. Because it is a live third-party website, this section needs an internet connection, and that website's own terms and privacy policy apply to its content. See the Terms of Service for details.
Does the app have a dark mode?+
Yes. Along with the warm light theme, there's a gentle dark theme. You can let the app follow your system theme or set it manually.
Can I use the app on tablets?+
The app is designed for phones in portrait mode today; wider-screen support may appear in a future update.
Dates & Panchang
How are festival dates calculated?+
Dates are derived from lunar calendar calculations (tithi & purnima/amavasya boundaries) for lunar festivals and fixed solar dates for solar festivals such as Pongal and Makar Sankranti. Our website's preview list and the app carry the same dates.
Why do some festival dates differ from a local calendar at my home?+
Indian festivals vary genuinely by region, tradition and moon-sighting. For example, Eid dates depend on local moon sighting, and several festivals are celebrated a day earlier or later in different states. The app marks regional observances, and we recommend treating a festival as spanning its twilight days.
What does "Panchang" include?+
The daily Panchang shows the tithi (with Shukla/Krishna paksha), nakshatra, lunar month, sunrise/sunset timings and auspicious muhurat windows. A short digest of it can be delivered as a notification every morning.
Does the app work offline?+
Yes. The core features — calendar, Panchang and festival guides — work without a network. The Meditation section needs an internet connection, because it displays a website inside the app.
Privacy & Data
Do you sell my data?+
No. We never sell, rent or trade personal information. The full detail of what is (and isn't) collected is in our Privacy Policy.
What data does the app collect?+
Very little: anonymous usage analytics and crash reports to keep the app stable, a notification token only if you enable reminders, and approximate country/region to show suitable festival dates. When ads are shown, Google AdMob collects advertising-related data (such as the device advertising ID and ad interactions) to serve and measure the ads. We do not collect your contacts, photos, precise location or microphone/camera data. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.
Can I turn off personalised ads?+
Yes. Ads are personalised only with your consent. On your device you can reset your advertising ID or switch off ad personalisation (Settings → Google → Ads); the app will then show non-personalised ads. Where required by law, the app also presents a consent choice the first time it shows ads.
Where are my preferences stored?+
On your own device — theme choice, reminder settings and favourites stay local. Uninstalling the app clears everything. See the Privacy Policy for full detail.
Support
I found a wrong festival date or a bug. How can I report it?+
Please email us at indianfestivalcalendarsupport@gmail.com with the festival name, the date your tradition follows and (if relevant) a screenshot. Community reports genuinely help us improve regional accuracy.
When will the app be available on the Play Store?+
The app is being finalised for release. Once the public listing goes live, the "Download App" buttons on this website will link directly to Google Play. Meanwhile you can read all about the features here.
How can I suggest a new feature or a festival?+
We'd love that — write to the same email address above with the details, and we'll treat your suggestion as a real roadmap input.
